Tyson has an original tattoo of Mao Zedong on his right arm, the founder of the Chinese People’s Republic. The great leader was credited with ending civil unrest, which Tyson read about in prison. In 2006 Tyson visited the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, with the Chicago Tribune in tow, to pay respects.

Tyson resides in Seven Hills, Nevada. He has been married three times, and has seven children, one deceased, with three women; in addition to his biological children, Tyson includes his second wife’s oldest daughter as one of his own.

In 2003, as TalkSport reminds us, Tyson stepped into the ring with his freshly inscribed ink and knocked out Clifford Etienne in 49 seconds. This would be Tyson’s last career victory, a mere week after getting his first tattoo. His trainer, Jeff Fenech, who’d been training Tyson for eight weeks leading up to the fight, called shenanigans. He said that Iron Mike was sabotaging the fight, essentially, because it “wasn’t healthy” to have a boxing match where Tyson’s face would get punched days after getting a tattoo on it. Fenech also thought Tyson got the tattoo because he didn’t want the fight in the first place. A week before the bout, Fenech walked, and Tyson went on to win in the first round. Two years later in 2005, Tyson retired after back-to-back losses.

Taylor defended her titles on 14 November 2020 at The SSE Arena in London against Miriam Gutiérrez. Taylor dropped her opponent to the canvas with a left hook at the end of the fourth round en route to a unanimous decision victory, with the judges’ scorecards reading 100–89, 100–90, and 99–91. During the post-fight interview, Eddie Hearn listed potential opponents for Taylor’s next fight, which included Amanda Serrano, a rematch with undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill, former undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus, or a crossover fight with MMA fighter Cris Cyborg.

The heavyweight division, like plenty of its biggest stars, is enjoying something of a resurgence. The leaders suddenly can’t get enough of fighting each other as an exciting era verges on becoming a great one. Here we examine all the key players, th…

The tattoo drew significant attention before the fight. Tyson took time off of training to get it, which trainer Jeff Fenech would later say was a contributing factor to the fight being rescheduled by a week. Some questioned Tyson’s physical and mental fitness to fight. Experts including dermatologist Robert A. Weiss expressed concerns about Tyson boxing while the tattoo healed; Etienne said that he would not go after the tattoo. (Tyson ultimately knocked out Etienne in under a minute. ) The work—which Tyson and others have referred to as his “warrior tattoo”—was also met with criticism from the outset by Māori activists who saw it as cultural appropriation. In 2006, tā moko artist Mark Kopua in a statement to the Waitangi Tribunal called for “a law that would prevent a Mike Tyson or a Robbie Williams or large non-Māori companies from wearing and exploiting the moko”.

Round 4: Wilder keeps just pawing his left out there, waiting for a miracle of perfection to show the way for box his right. Wilder has landed 9 punches through three rounds. Yeesh. Zhang not lighting the world on fire with 27, but still.

In 2014, though, Tyson finally fessed up about the real reason for his tattoo. As Sportcasting recounts, Tyson said of his dark period, “I just hated myself… I literally wanted to deface myself.” Capricious though it was, the tattoo was also his first step toward making positive choices.

Joyce was looking for the quickest route possible to a world title shot after turning professional late, following his silver-medal achievement at the 2016 Olympics. But a lack of head movement cost Joyce, and he has now slipped further along the queue for a title shot.

Upon closer inspection, one can find hidden symbols within Tyson’s face tattoo that pay homage to important people and events in his life. These hidden tributes further add to the depth and significance of the artwork.

Going by the books, only 1% of professional fighters ever earn over a million dollars per year. That means, even if you work hard and do everything you need to do, there are no guarantees you’ll ever earn a million dollars as a pro boxer.

OHHHH! Wilder gets caught!! Not even sure what got him but Wilder is now stumbling with his back turned! Zhang jumps on him and levels Wilder with a right hook!! Wilder is trying to beat the count. He looks in bad shape though. Wilder gets up at 8 but the ref has seen enough! Clean sweep for Queensberry!!!

In his prime, the 5-foot-10 Tyson generally competed at just under 220 pounds. His day-to-day weight became much higher after retirement. He revealed in November 2020 he had lost around 100 pounds, thanks to a new vegan diet and a lot of time on a treadmill, ahead of an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr.

Expectations for Tyson were extremely high, and he was the favorite to win the heavyweight unification series, a tournament designed to establish an undisputed heavyweight champion. Tyson defended his title against James Smith on March 7, 1987, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He won by unanimous decision and added Smith’s World Boxing Association (WBA) title to his existing belt. “Tyson-mania” in the media was becoming rampant.

Round 3: Joyce showing more urgency, he comes out with a couple of body punches. Zhang jabs the body. He catches Joyce with a counter right. Good straight right scores for Joyce. There’s another big left from Zhang and Joyce is not wearing these power punches well. Zhang just jabbing away as he loads up his left. Jab and body shot by Joyce, he’s trying to muck it up. Right hand from Zhang CRUSHES Joyce at the end of the round and he slumps stomach-first to the mat. The bell rings, but referee has to finish the count and Joyce is in no condition to continue. Zhang got him again!

To help pay off his debts, Tyson announced he would be doing a series of exhibition bouts, calling it Tyson’s World Tour. For his first bout, Tyson returned to the ring in 2006 for a four-round exhibition against journeyman heavyweight Corey Sanders in Youngstown, Ohio. Tyson, without headgear at 5 ft 10 in and 216 pounds, was in quality shape, but far from his prime against Sanders, at 6 ft 6 in who wore headgear. Tyson appeared to be “holding back” in the exhibition to prevent an early end to the “show”. “If I don’t get out of this financial quagmire there’s a possibility I may have to be a punching bag for somebody. The money I make isn’t going to help my bills from a tremendous standpoint, but I’m going to feel better about myself. I’m not going to be depressed”, explained Tyson about the reasons for his “comeback”. After the bout was poorly received by fans the remainder of the tour was canceled.

While Zhang, with huge commercial potential from China and an outside chance of taking on Fury next in a title fight, faces a potentially exciting 2024, Saturday’s result leaves Joyce facing the reality of a second successive setback at age 38. Joyce can take encouragement at the way Zhang’s career has gone into overdrive since he turned 39, but will now be questioning the wisdom of putting on 25 pounds for the rematch.

As part of his cleaning-up campaign, he has been adhering to a strict vegan diet for nearly two years, explaining that he doesn’t want anything in him “that’s going to enrage me — no processed food, no meat.” He says that he can no longer abide the smell of meat even on someone’s breath and has dropped 150 pounds since he weighed in at 330 in 2009. “I’ve learned to live a boring life and love it,” he declares, sounding more determined than certain. “I let too much in, and look what happened. . . . I used to have a bunch of girls and some drugs on the table. A bunch of people running around doing whatever.”

Zhang is clearly looking for the uppercut but he hasn’t been able to utilise it just yet. And that’s better from Parker — two good shots, including one to the body which halts Zhang’s indomitable march forward. He then twice goes to Zhang’s belly, but is given a warning by the referee for a low blow.

However, the story of Tyson’s face tattoo actually goes back several years earlier. According to Tyson himself, he was inspired to get the tattoo after seeing a similar design on the face of a Maori warrior during a trip to New Zealand. The Maori are an indigenous Polynesian people who have a rich cultural heritage and traditions that date back thousands of years. One of their most well-known customs is the practice of facial tattoos, which are known as moko.

And then, out of nowhere, Zhang catches Parker flush in the face and the former WBO champion is sent to the canvas! The veteran caught Parker a little square and caught him flush with a straight left down the pipe that put Parker on his backside.

Tyson once again had the opportunity to fight for a heavyweight championship in 2002. Lennox Lewis held the WBC, IBF, IBO and Lineal titles at the time. As promising fighters, Tyson and Lewis had sparred at a training camp in a meeting arranged by Cus D’Amato in 1984. Tyson sought to fight Lewis in Nevada for a more lucrative box in yahoo.com-office venue, but the Nevada Boxing Commission refused him a license to box as he was facing possible sexual assault charges at the time.

“I blocked a few punches, but hell yeah, he punches hard,” Zhang, speaking through an interpreter, said of Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs), who is regarded as one of the most powerful punchers in heavyweight history.

On March 4, 1985 Tyson stepped into the ring for his first professional fight. He had studied boxing history and watched old newsreel footage of the great fighters of the past and wanted to emulate them. He entered the ring without fanfare, without a robe, without socks, dressed in black with the most menacing and intimidating glare in boxing. Many of his opponents were
